Getting the chandelier size
This can be obtained with a simple formula. You can add up all the dimensions of the room to get the minimum diameter for the chandelier. For instance, I’d the dimension of the room is 14 inches by 12 inches, you could just add up 12 and 14 to 26. This means that you should use a diameter of 26 inches as the minimum size. If you want to get a linear chandelier for your space, you should use a length that is between ½ and 1/3 the table’s length. This is the chandelier’s size.
The shape of the chandelier
Modern chandeliers for living room come in different shapes. Common shapes of the chandelier include rectangular, square, and round. The square and the round chandeliers give you classic looks. If you are opting for the square or round chandelier, you should consider the height of the ceiling. If you have taller ceilings, look for more elongated shapes that will be used to fill out more areas in the vertical space. Then again, there are the Oval chandeliers that are becoming increasingly popular. Oval chandeliers have more width in the middle compared to their linear counterparts. Oval chandeliers are perfect for rooms that have tall ceilings: one good example, your double volume staircase or double volume sitting room.
The hanging height of the chandelier
If you are hanging a chandelier over your table ensure to give enough clearance. Ensure that the lighting fixture is 30 inches clear from the surface of the table. The light quantity of your chandelier
Just like choosing the hanging height of your chandelier, you still need to know how best to decide on the light quantity needed to illuminate your room. For your dining room, you are recommended to use from 10 to 20 foot-candle equivalent of the measured light.
The formula involved using this number and multiplying the same with the area of the room. From our example, we have a room of 12 * 15 = 180 * 10-foot candles which gives a total of 1800 lumens. Or if you need to get more illumination, you could say 1800 * 2 = 3600 lumens. What this means is that your dining room should come with a chandelier that creates a total lighting system from 1800 to 3600 lumens.
